David Syre: Drawings and Paintings | September 5 – 26, 2019 | Copenhagen Design House and Art Gallery, Copenhagen, DENMARK

Copenhagen Design House and Art Gallery Copenhagen is proud to present David Syre: Drawings and Paintings, a selection of works by American artist David Syre for the first time in Denmark.

Over the past decade, Syre has developed a prolific and expansive body of works inspired by his evolving psyche and internal dialogue. Self-taught and very prolific, he creates artwork at an accelerated pace and embraces bold lines and brave colors. His work manifests spontaneously and as an intuitive offering on canvas, on paper, and in the form of sculptures.

The artist’s paintings are representative of his deep desire to forge a path towards a universal union and truth. Often filled with dynamic lines that form calm and peaceful figures, Syre plays with them, twists them, distorts them, or adds texture, thereby creating depth to an otherwise flat surface.

By adding volume to his pencil strokes, he creates his sculptural works transferring forms from the paper to the third dimension. Syre crafts earth-colored ceramic figures inspired by icons of Tierra del Fuego.

Syre’s drawings are animated by fictional characters with human or animal-like appearances. The effortless strokes and colored-pencil streaks seem to walk, almost dance, on the paper, driven by an internal impulse to tell profound stories.. Sometimes mystical, sometimes humorous, their narrative magically evolves, unveiling Syre’s most intimate world and mirroring some of the viewers’ perceptions.
